What moves EUR/USD
EUR/USD depends mostly on the gap between ECB and Federal Reserve interest rates, and on how markets expect that gap to change. Inflation and growth data from both sides matter, and in moments of fear the dollar tends to strengthen.
How we measure
For each instrument we compute its "usual" move over 4 hours of open market (the median of recent days, excluding weekends and closed hours). When we publish a story, we look at the price 4 market hours later: if it moved more than usual we write "moved the price", otherwise "the market did not react". A big story with a flat price usually means the market already expected it.
